BBC News is now available as a 24-hour live stream on regular YouTube for viewers in the UK and United States. YouTube confirmed the launch on 15 October 2026. It is a new way to access the news channel, not a requirement to subscribe to the separate YouTube TV service.
The rollout is a trial, according to TV Tech’s reporting on the BBC announcement. The useful distinction for viewers is between the BBC’s live channel, its individual uploaded reports and YouTube’s paid television bundle.
Where to find BBC News live on YouTube
Use the official BBC News YouTube channel, which is the destination linked from YouTube’s launch announcement. Choose its current live broadcast rather than assuming an old news clip or a third-party restream is the continuous channel.
A live feed follows the channel’s running coverage. An uploaded report is a separate video that can remain available after the event. That distinction matters when searching during breaking news: an old video can still appear prominently in results without showing what is happening now.
Which countries are confirmed?
The 15 October expansion covers the UK and US. YouTube says it builds on earlier live launches in Australia, Kenya, Nigeria and Poland. That is a list of confirmed markets, not an announcement of unrestricted worldwide access.
If the broadcast is unavailable in another country, the UK and US announcement alone does not establish that there is a technical fault or that the viewer should be able to watch it there. Availability should be checked through the official channel in the viewer’s location.
Is this the same as YouTube TV?
No. YouTube is the video platform hosting the BBC News stream. YouTube TV is a separate television service in the US; TV Tech notes that BBC News was already carried there. The October change adds distribution on regular YouTube rather than merely adding another channel to that existing bundle.
The Desk’s launch report describes the YouTube feed as free streaming access. That describes the platform’s viewing route; it should not be read as changing any separate local requirements for watching live television.
What the trial changes for news distribution
The BBC’s stated aim is to reach audiences on platforms they already use, including younger viewers. Our interpretation is that the significant change is continuity: viewers who previously encountered BBC reports one clip at a time can now follow a running news service within the same app.
It does not turn every BBC video into a live broadcast or prove that the trial will become permanent. For another example of platform access with specific limits, our LinkedIn In-Stream Ads guide separates an announced test from general availability.
