Alexander Zverev reached the US Open final after defeating Karen Khachanov in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(7), 7-6(6) in New York.

Reuters reported that Zverev recovered from a difficult opening stretch of the tournament to win four consecutive matches without dropping a set. The semifinal was settled by two tight tiebreaks after Zverev took the opening set.

The result sends Zverev into another major final and gives him a chance to add a US Open title to his season. His opponent will emerge from the other semifinal.

The Guardian’s live match report independently confirmed the scoreline and described how the match turned on Zverev’s composure in the tiebreaks. For spectators, the final will now test whether Zverev can translate a strong semifinal display into a title run at Flushing Meadows.
